General information

Varieties "Royal" and "Royal Beauty" are decorative. They are one of the hybrid species descended from the purple apple tree. The variety was bred using material from the Central Asian apple tree Nedzvetsky.

Apple trees of this type are very widely used in the design of house adjoining territories, public park zones and squares. The decorative fruit tree looks spectacular in a single, group and alley planting, when performing hedges, in seasonal compositions and contrasting shrub groups. Royal and Royal Beauty apple trees are characterized by their small size and slow pace of development. The maximum height of the decorative apple tree is more than six meters. At the age of ten, such trees are about four meters high.

Very often, the apple trees of these varieties are characterized by a shrub form and an oval type of crown. The crown diameter of decorative trees does not exceed five meters. Young plants have a more compact crown, with age it becomes sprawling. Crohn, not subject to pruning, has the form of an oval or ball.

The leaves of the apple tree are narrowed and have a pronounced glossy surface with pubescence. As a rule, the shape of the leaves is elliptical or oblong ovate. The length of the leaves can vary from 8 to 12 centimeters. The main color of the foliage is very spectacular, dark purple or purple. In autumn, it brightens and pleases the eye with a rich red or crimson color.

In full leafy conditions, the leaf plates may have a purple color only on the underside. The upper part of the leaf in this case has a bright dark green color, which makes the apple tree even more attractive.

The process of cultivating a decorative apple tree has virtually no significant differences from growing ordinary fruit plants. Decorative apple tree is quite unpretentious. But still it is advisable to follow the basic recommendations for caring for this type of garden plants:

  • When buying a seedling with an open root system, it is very important to check the plant for signs of overdrying. Before planting, seedlings with a bare root system should be lowered into the water for one hour.
  • The seedlings placed in the planting pits should be carefully straightened out by the root system, then they should be covered with nutritious soil, which requires slight compaction and high-quality watering.
  • In the process of planting, it is forbidden to deepen the root neck of the plant.
  • The plant is responsive to mulching using pine bark, horse peat, nutshell or wood chips. The mulching layer helps protect the soil from overdrying and reduces the need for loosening, watering and weeding.

Ornamental apple trees need rich, drained soils, it is better to plant them in sunny or slightly shaded areas. Immediately after planting, the seedlings do not need to be fertilized or fertilized. However, the introduction of vegetable fertilizers is necessary at the growing stage.
